Meet Brian
Hello, I'm Brian
I'm a BACP-registered counsellor working with individuals and couples in London, Surrey, online and outdoors. I'm also the founder of TalkBuddy, and an ambassador for Ref Support UK, supporting referees.
Feeling comfortable, understood and able to speak openly is an important part of counselling. My approach is collaborative and tailored to you, helping you develop greater self-awareness and work towards the changes that matter to you.
Welcome

Whether you're facing a particular difficulty, navigating changes in your life or looking to understand yourself better, counselling gives you the opportunity to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences in a confidential and supportive environment.
My approach is warm, understanding and collaborative, so we can work together in a way that reflects your individual needs.

About me
Hello, I'm Brian
Counsellor, MBACP. Founder of TalkBuddy and ambassador for Ref Support UK.
My approach to counselling
I believe that feeling comfortable with your counsellor is an important part of the therapeutic relationship. Everyone brings their own circumstances, perspectives and expectations, and my aim is to provide an environment where you feel listened to, respected and able to speak openly.
I work integratively, with a foundation in psychodynamic counselling. This means we can explore both the experiences affecting you today and the earlier influences that may shape how you think, feel and relate to others.
Counselling isn't about being given instructions or told what to decide. It's an opportunity to develop your own understanding and consider what matters to you. Our work develops around your circumstances, and we'll review together how it's going.
Counselling that feels personal
Some people feel comfortable in a traditional counselling room. Others prefer a different setting. Alongside in-person, online and telephone counselling, I offer walk and talk and fishing-based sessions, so we can work in a setting that feels natural to you.

A free 20-minute call is a chance to ask questions, talk about what you're looking for and see whether you'd feel comfortable working with me.
Individual counselling
Individual counselling, tailored to you
A confidential, supportive space to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences with care, understanding and empathy.
How it can help
Time and attention for what matters to you
Individual counselling gives you the opportunity to talk openly about your experiences, explore personal challenges and understand yourself more deeply.
You may be experiencing anxiety, navigating changes in your life, managing difficulties in a relationship, or simply feel you'd benefit from talking to someone outside your everyday life.
There's no expectation to have everything worked out before you begin. We can start with whatever feels most important to you.

What happens in individual counselling?
Each session is dedicated time to explore the experiences, feelings or concerns you'd like to discuss. We might focus on your current circumstances, your relationships, earlier experiences, or patterns you'd like to understand more deeply.
I adapt my approach to you rather than following a fixed programme. We'll work at a pace that feels right, and regularly consider how the sessions are supporting you.

Making time for your relationship

Relationships can be rewarding and an important source of support. They can also go through periods of uncertainty, change or difficulty.
You may want to improve communication, work through a particular concern, rebuild trust, or simply strengthen the connection you share. Couples counselling offers dedicated time to do that together, away from the pressures of everyday life.
My role isn't to take sides or decide who is right or wrong. It's to help you both feel heard, understand each other's perspective and explore what you need from your relationship.

Counselling beyond the therapy room
A different setting for counselling
For some people, talking side by side in a natural environment feels easier than sitting in a counselling room.

The same counselling, a different place
Outdoor sessions offer the same opportunity to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences as traditional counselling. The only difference is where our conversations take place.
Before we begin, we'll talk through the practical arrangements, including where we'll meet, the weather, and confidentiality in public spaces.

Walk & Talk counselling
Counselling in the open air
An alternative to indoor sessions, combining confidential conversation with time spent walking outdoors.
A different environment
Walking side by side
For some people, gentle movement and natural surroundings make counselling feel more relaxed and comfortable. Walking side by side creates a more informal setting, without changing the purpose or quality of the counselling itself.
We'll walk at a comfortable pace, take time to reflect, and focus on whatever you'd like to explore.

Why choose Walk & Talk?
It may suit you if you:
- Enjoy spending time outdoors
- Feel more comfortable talking while walking
- Prefer a less formal setting
- Find movement helps you reflect
- Would like an alternative to a counselling room
How sessions work
Sessions take place along an agreed route, chosen with comfort and accessibility in mind. Before we begin, we'll discuss where to meet, what happens if the weather turns, and confidentiality in public spaces.
The focus always remains on counselling. Walking simply provides the setting.
Fishing counselling
Fishing with Brian
The calm of the water, with the opportunity for meaningful conversation and personal reflection.

Counselling beside the water
Space for conversation, and for quiet
The peaceful environment of fishing can make a comfortable setting for conversation. Rather than sitting face to face, we sit alongside a shared activity, with room for both discussion and quiet reflection.
The focus remains on what you'd like to explore. Fishing simply provides a different place to explore it.
Why fishing counselling?
It may appeal to you if you:
- Enjoy fishing or spending time near water
- Prefer a relaxed outdoor setting
- Feel more comfortable talking alongside an activity
- Appreciate time for reflection
How it works
Sessions are arranged at a suitable fishing location, with the practical details discussed beforehand. We'll talk about your experience, the arrangements, and whether this way of working is right for you.
As with all my counselling, our conversations are confidential, within the practical limits of an outdoor setting.

Frequently asked questions
Your questions, answered
How do I know if counselling is right for me?
Counselling can help with a wide range of personal and emotional experiences, and you don't need a particular difficulty to come. A free consultation can help you decide whether it feels right.
What happens in my first session?
We'll talk about what brings you to counselling and what you'd like from our work together. There's no expectation to share everything straight away.
How long is a session, and how much does it cost?
Sessions last 50 minutes. Individual counselling is £75, couples counselling £120 and executive coaching £100.
How often will we meet, and for how long?
Usually weekly or fortnightly. Some people come for a shorter period to explore a particular concern; others prefer longer-term counselling.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes. I'll explain how your information is handled, and the professional and legal limits of confidentiality, before we begin.
Can I have counselling online or by phone?
Yes. Online sessions are available across the UK, and telephone counselling is available for individual clients. You can also move between formats.
What are walk and talk and fishing counselling?
Both are individual counselling in an outdoor setting, either walking together or fishing at a suitable location. We'll discuss the practical arrangements before booking.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No. You can contact me directly to arrange a free consultation.
What if I don't know what to talk about?
That's very common, and it's fine. We can start with whatever is on your mind that day, and I'll help us find a way in.
What if it doesn't feel like it's helping?
Please tell me. We review how things are going regularly, and we can change how we work, or I can help you find support that suits you better.
Can I stop counselling at any time?
Yes. It's always your decision. Where possible, we'll plan an ending together and reflect on our work.
